Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 22, 2026. Backhaul is operated by Pialo LLC. This policy covers the Backhaul website and the Backhaul mobile apps for iOS and Android. Plain language, because you shouldn’t need a lawyer to read it.
Who we are
Backhaul is a load-profitability tool for owner-operators and small trucking fleets. You paste or scan a broker offer and we tell you whether the load actually makes money. That job — and billing you for it — is the only reason we collect anything.
What we collect
You give us:
- Account details — your email address and password (passwords are stored hashed by our auth provider, never in plain text) and, optionally, your company or personal name shown on your load reports.
- Business and fleet details — trucks, drivers, cost assumptions (fuel, insurance, pay), and home base you enter so the math reflects your operation.
- Load data — the broker offers, rates, miles, brokers, and lanes you paste, upload, or type, and the calculations, verdicts, and records we build from them.
- Documents and photos — rate confirmations, receipts, BOLs, and proof-of-delivery images you attach. On mobile you can use your camera or photo library to add these; we only access the camera or photos when you tap to add a document.
- Location — if you choose to use your device’s current location to estimate deadhead miles, we use that single GPS reading for that check. Location is never collected in the background and only when you tap to use it. You can always type a location instead.
- Payment — subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects and stores your card details directly; Backhaul never sees or stores your full card number. We keep your subscription status and the last four digits Stripe returns.
- Basic usage data — app and page events (for example, which screens are used and whether a check succeeded) so we can fix problems and improve the product.
How we use it
Only to run the service: extract and price the loads you submit, keep your load records and paperwork together, bill your subscription, provide support, and keep the app secure and working. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not build advertising profiles.
What we never do
We don’t sell your data. We don’t share your loads, rates, costs, or margins with brokers, load boards, or other carriers. Any aggregated, de-identified statistics that inform product features can never identify you or your business.
Service providers we share with
We use a small set of trusted processors, each receiving only what’s needed to do its job:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage for your account, records, and documents.
- Stripe — subscription payments and billing.
- Anthropic — AI reading of the offer text or images you submit, to extract fields like rate, miles, and broker.
- Geoapify — geocoding and routing to estimate miles between the locations you confirm.
- Reference data providers — fuel-price, toll-estimate, market-rate, and carrier-authority (FMCSA) lookups used to price a load. These receive the lane or broker involved, not your account identity.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms and may store it outside your country, including in the United States.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and records while your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your company data, records, and documents, cancel any active billing, and remove your login — this is irreversible. Anonymous, aggregated statistics that don’t identify you may be retained.
Your choices
You can edit or export your data, and delete your account and everything in it, from inside the app under account settings — or email support@backhaul.to and we’ll do it for you. You can decline camera, photo, and location access and still enter that information manually.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our infrastructure providers, and access to your records is scoped to your account. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe and to notify you if that ever fails.
Children
Backhaul is a business tool for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by email.
